I’ve seen plenty of posts where people have listed the “Top 10″, “20 Best”, “X Must Have” Firefox add-ons for (insert profession here). I’ve thought about these types of posts and thought that instead of posting another list, I’d just share my favorite Firefox Add-on I use.

Link AlertI use a number of different add-ons that come in very handy in my job and in my web development including Web Developer, Clippings, Greasemonkey,Stylish, Tamper Data, Copy as HTML Link and more. However, my favorite Firefox Add-On is Link Alert.

Link Alert adds a small icon to your mouse based on the link you are about to click on, whether it is a Word Doc, Excel Spreadsheet, PDF, Zip, Application, JavaScript, or if the file will open in a new window. It will also show if you are clicking through to a secure link (https – like the ones above) or if the link is an image and much more. Click through to the Mozilla Firefox Add-ons page for the full list.

It’s not a must-have development tool and is by far not the most useful add-on that I use. For some reason, it is just my favorite add-on that I use. It helps knowing if a link is set to open externally so I can open in a tab if I want. I can know if the file will prompt for download (Excel, Word, Zip). It’s just a handy tool that I like to have. It’s not one of those add-ons that you’ll miss if you don’t have it, but it’s just a nice little extra to have.

Share your favorite Firefox Add-On with others in the comments.
